Southern Region Cars & Coffee event 2nd July 2013

On Tuesday evening we went to Soda Blasters premised in Cork to look at a complete restoration job being undertaken on Donnacha O Sullivan’s forward dated 911 SC Coupe . Donnacha’s car is a 1977 911 SC which has been transformed with a GRP fibre Glass Kit to a 996 GT2 replica before he purchased it .

As with all early 911’s this car was suffering form Rust , and because Donnacha is in the business ( Soda Blasters prepare old car shells for restoration ) he decided to soda blast clean , and then galvanise coat his own shell prior to tackling the rust . The galvanising coating system is another service Soda Blasters offer and my oh my it does give a great galvanised coating finish prior to paint on the shell .

At this stage most early 911 Porsche owners would repair the obvious body sections and paint the car , not Donnacha!

The car was then microscopically examined by Ted his car restorer and each panel replaced as required , including new floors etc , one interesting delete was the sunroof , which has been replaced by a Carbon Fibre roof . Ted also gave us a demonstration of “ Leading” , a lost art , but in usisng it on Donnacha’s car there won’t be any filler under the paint – A lifetime repair for a stunning looking car ,

All in all the car is amazing and is now in the final assembly stages for paint – We’re looking forward to seeing the finished Car on one of our Southern Region Runs .
