Kisaennakon maalailut kävivät toteen: Porsche Ringillä nähtiin vähän liikaakin tapahtumia. Ja saatiin uusi mestari.

Kolmen kisan viikonloppu BaTCC Pärnu Summer Race-tapahtumassa aloitettiin vapailla harjoituksilla torstaina, aika-ajot ja ensimmäinen kisa ajettiin perjantaina. Lauantaina ajettiin kaksi kisaa.

The race preview had a few things right: there was a bit too much unexpected action at Porsche Ring. And we now have a new champion.

The three-race weekend at BaTCC Pärnu Summer Race was kicked off with free practice on Thursday, qualification and first race were on Friday. Saturday saw two races. With that, the weekend was scheduled to be a very busy one even without any extra activities.

The free practices and qualification were of the usual Pärnu: Thomas Padovani (Est1 Racing) and Thomas Kangro (Porsche Estonia) were topping the lap times. Also the Junior Program Driver Nikolas Pirttilahti (Relaa Racing) showed strong pace in the practice and ended up surprising the 992 cars by parking his 991.1 on P4 in the qualification.

The first race started in the fading light of the day. The beautiful setting was soon ruined in the opening laps of the race. First, multiple cars spun heading the main straight - most of SPP Racing and Pirttilahti were out, causing the safety car to lead the pack.

The restart was no better, as several cars collided after the first corner. The incident was initiated by a seemingly harmless contact but caused a crash and a traffic jam that some avoided with better luck than others. The race direction drew the one and only correct conclusion and red flagged the racing for the night. The cars and drivers were summoned to the pits for closer examination.

On the foggy Saturday morning, an additional drivers’ meeting was held to underline the selection of racing lines in the tight sections of the track. The incidents on Friday resulted in fewer cars taking part in the racing on Saturday. With that, Padovani took the opportunity and claimed two brilliant victories.

In the early stages of the last race of the weekend, however, Marius Bartkus (Team #5 Porsche Club) managed to briefly claim P1 before an unfortunate spin that handed Padovani the lead and eventually the win. Jonne Kurikka (39 Racing) faced unexpected mechanical issues and Raimo Niemi (Relaa Racing) took the opportunity to clinch a season best top 5 finish.

Also Jani Käkelä (39 Racing) with two podium finishes (P2 and P3) as well as the birthday hero Daniel Skurnik (D-Sports) with two 991 class wins showed some great race pace.

With the points from Pärnu - aided by the misfortune of closest rivals - Padovani now has over 200 championship points and a commanding lead. In fact, he is already a champion before the season finisher! We will cover his stellar championship year in a later occasion so be sure to check that out.
