Mont Marie           23 June 2019                                                            Birgit Lamm

We had our club's second visit to Mont Marie, and after meeting up at the one stop had a beautiful drive through to one of our gorgeous wine farms.

Mont Marie, with its generous deck, overlooking the pond, and the friendly ducks, did themselves proud once again.

Our original booking was for 30 people, and the party just kept growing. By the time the day arrived, we were at 70 people, and Mont Marie just took it in their stride. We were joined by lots of our newer members which was fantastic.

Some members elected to sit outside on the deck, but most decided to stay indoors, where it was certainly warmer.

Being such a large party does have one slight downside, which is that service is really pushed to the limit, and some tables had to wait longer than others for their food. That notwithstanding, the food, when it came, was delicious, and well presented. The lemon souffle was a thing of beauty!

It had been our very own Lynda Wentzel’s (Master Chef to some; Ouma Ocean to others) birthday the day before, and so, our club brought a birthday cake along. It was a gorgeous carrot cake, which, courtesy of Colin Plit's cornering techniques, arrived with a more impressive lean than the Tower of Pisa! It didn't take away from the taste, at all.  Not even a bit. I know – I had plenty.

It was lovely to be joined on an outing by Robyn, who we usually only see in the kitchen at track days, with her son Thomas (my nephew – yes, I’m a very proud aunty) and Ken and Lynda’s daughter-in-law, Sahar.

As the afternoon progressed, some of our members were drawn to their phones, to watch the antics of the F1 brigade at the track in France. The usual Mercedes vs Ferrari rivalry ensued, but the results were,

#1. Hamilton

#2. Bottas

#3. Leclerc

Things have certainly heated up in the races since that one, and F1 has thankfully become more exciting now.

All in all, the outing was a great one, and Mont Marie is a personal favourite, which I can see as a regular on our outings calendar. Well done to Enver for organising the outing, and keeping his cool as the numbers doubled, and thank you to Allan Allschwang for leading us on the run... Pity about the trucks on the return along the alternate route, which had us crawling along, frustrated and using less ladylike words!
