 Friday, 2 September 2022 - Sunday, 4 September 2022

The drive on Saturday 3 September will be from Timaru to Fairlie for a coffee and a famous Fairlie pie.  Then on to Burkes Pass turning off SH8 to drive a big loop through the MacKenzie Pass, past Grampian Station and on to Lake Benmore.

We then drive through back to Grampian Station where Timaru member (and part-owner of Grampian) Nigel Gormack has arranged for us to have lunch at the Shearers’ Quarters.  Charge $20 per person – please bring cash.

Then back on the road and over the Hakataramea Pass and down to Kurow where we’ll stop at the local hostelry to wash away any dust. An easy drive back to Timaru via the Waimate Gorge follows.  Total gravel roads about 60 – 70km.  Great scenery, great drive with great Porsche people.

Given that we will start early, we recommend travelling to Timaru on Friday 2 September and stay overnight at either The Bay City Motor Lodge 03 688 8800 or Harbour View Motel 03 686 6811  Roger Carter has arranged a casual dinner at The Bay Hill Brewery Bar which is an easy walk from both hotels.

By the time we get back on the Saturday it will be pretty late afternoon so again, we recommend that you stay on and join us for a buffet dinner in a quirky restaurant/bar close by.

We’ll depart on Sunday after a good nights sleep.

Apart from the Grampian Station lunch, all costs will be pay as you go.

The roads are not really suitable for low-slung sports cars so anyone without a high-riding vehicle, let Graeme Lindsay know that you are interested – several members have offered to take member passengers on the Saturday run, so you could drive your low-slung sports car to Timaru and join in the fun as passengers on the gravel roads.

Please email Graeme if you’d like to attend: grnl49@gmail.com.  Please also advise if you intend to join the dinners on Friday and Saturday so that appropriate bookings can be made.
