President’s Report

The year is flying by and in between the seemingly constant rainfall here in Auckland, there is almost a hint of spring showing itself. Our thoughts go out to everyone caught in the terrible flooding in the top of the South Island.

Club activity, despite the weather has remained strong and healthy, with members getting out and enjoying both their cars and the varied events the Club has organised, across all regions.

A very well received Timaru Southern Driver Training in early August saw many compliments from members and instructors alike. Everyone enjoyed themselves and most importantly members learned a lot! A big well done to the organisers and instructors. These days take a lot of organising and running and we can be proud of the professionalism shown by everyone.

Of note we have not given up on a Northern Driver Training, but we have been battling increased costs and of course have been confronted with Pukekohe Raceway being fully booked out well in advance with its pending closure in April 2023.

The Northern Region events calendar is fast filling up, and we want to introduce the new Northern Social Committee comprising of: Michelle Neville, Philip Adamson, Katie Scannell, Ron Stroeven, Steve Protheroe, Debra Chantry-Taylor and Elisha Smith.

National Committee members Dan and Camilla have the Central Region chugging along nicely, Graham, Gavin and Roger in the Southern Region are ever busy as is Andrew with the Top of the South, despite recent weather challenges. We want to thank all the Social Committees for their hard work in supporting the National Committee and Club. Organising activities has been hard through the Covid period, but we appear to have come through the worst of it now.

Speaking of the National Committee, we are all convening in Auckland, September 10th for our annual Club Strategy Meeting. This is long overdue, again because of Covid restrictions and we look forward to discussing the Club’s plans, addressing areas requiring attention to ensure future success, management and planning of activities, resource allocation, membership growth, goals, etc.

Members will hopefully notice a few changes with the Club’s Facebook and website mediums. Chris King has been hard at work adding further updates, and some refreshing new slants on things. Thanks Chris and as always, to Teresa for your work keeping us all up to date.

On the international front you will see in this issue the factory’s global launch of the incredible new GT3 RS. Once again records will fall with this truly superb piece of machinery. Andreas Preuninger, head of Porsche’s GT Department recently stunned the world with the factory’s latest iteration, the 992 GT3 but to follow that up with this ever more track focussed GT3 RS leaves you wondering just what is left to improve? The huge amount of development on the aero front is very apparent, with much more visual enhancement than on previous models - and I didn’t even mention ‘that’ wing!

Peter Stewart and I have been meeting with Porsche NZ General Manager, Greg Clarke and Porsche NZ Marketing Manager Caitlin Ryan, with the aim of bringing European Motors Porsche, the Official Porsche Centres and the Club closer together. We have two sizable joint activities in the planning for the earlier part of 2023, one in the South Island and one in the North, so watch this space!

Take care everyone, enjoy your cars and Club.

Best regards

Ash Powell – President
