Torque Tube Annual Christmas Winery Lunch Run – Sun 6th December

It was a gorgeous Sunday morning to be out, the sun was shining and the air was crisp as we met in Carlton for a quick coffee and some navigation tips. This being my 1st time as register captain of Torque Tube, I was a little bit nervous.

All the participants were on time and well organized, there was my Red 944S2 convertible & my co-captain's Black 944S2 Convertible, a red 944S2 and a gold 944 and lastly a very fine 2009 Black Cayman just to round up the team. After a few handshakes and the mandatory Carlton espresso, we departed Carlton, Healesville bound taking in the picturesque green scenery of the Eltham, Yarra Glen and Healesville.

The roads were surprisingly clear and this allowed us take advantage of the tight twists and some long straights to stretch the legs if you know what I mean. Of course the day was not without incident, having missed the Yarra Glen turn off, luckily everyone was obedient to their Captain and followed me for another 10 minutes until I realised my mistake ( Must remember to take a navigator with me next time). Healesville was abuzz with markets and lots of people when we arrived at our destination, the Giant Step/Innocent bystander winery. Wood fired pizzas, wine tasting and few more stories later and it was time to go but not before the mandatory photo opportunity. Thanks again to all those that participated in the annual Torque Tube winery run, and for assisting me in my 1st outing as Torque Tube captain. looking forward to a few more runs in the New Year.

CAPTAIN INTRODUCTION

Some years ago the Porsche Car Club of Victoria created “Registers” within the club for all of the different models.

My name is Adrian Harkin and I have put my hand up to be the spokesperson for this fine register.

Firstly, a little about my car and myself.

I’m thirty-three years old, married, my wife’s name is Anuschka, and we have two children, Max & Zoe. I am an Automotive Technician working for my own company Hartech Automotive Services, specialising in Porsches. I have been working here for a couple of years now. Previous to that I worked at Porsche Centre Melbourne for roughly twelve years. My interests include, Porsche cars, time with my family, home renovation, cars in general, a bit of gardening here and there, motor sport in many forms, oh and did I mention cars?

My reason for being in the club and this register is in the form of a Guards Red 1986 944 Turbo. It was a tourist delivery; it spent its first years touring Europe before venturing to Melbourne where it has resided ever since. It was optioned with cruise control, factory alarm, sports seats and the almost obligatory sunroof. I have been the proud owner for the past seven years. It is my first Porsche.

That’s a little bit about my family (car included) and myself.

What I would like to do is to get a bit of feedback from you to try and sort out what we want, when and how often.

I have had the following thoughts:

Early Morning Runs – Are being done by many other registers, are good fun and relatively inexpensive.

Tech Night – I am in the position to hold a, or several nights focusing on the more technical and mechanical aspects of our cars.

Movie / Social Nights - Just purely getting together in a social environment. (Car movies will not be mandatory.)

Weekend Run – An option for further down the track perhaps. More expensive and a lot more involved to organise.

These are just a few ideas I’ve had running around my head.

We’re all passionate about our cars, that is why we joined the club. So let’s get together as a group and enjoy them together.

It would be really great to hear back from you all and your thoughts, both good and bad about the register and any ideas that you may have had.

Hope to hear from you soon
