Porsche Club Outing – Durbanville Hills – Sunday 18th August 2019                             Val McFall

What a fabulous venue Durbanville Hills Restaurant.  Definitely did not disappoint our expectations.

The double volume ceilings, wood finishes and amazing panoramic views of Table Mountain

and Table Bay, were an absolute sight to behold.  It was a perfect day of Culinary expertise, thank

you to Head Chef, Tamzyn Ehlers and her Team for creating our delightful Menu on the day to

absolute perfection and every course was simply mouth-watering and flavoursome, which managed

to suit all palates.

Jean and Shannon introduced us all to the Menu Breakdown.  They were absolutely charming and

Immediately got everyone’s attention and taste buds working overtime and ready to get “the show

on the road”.  10/10 for this perfect, entertaining introduction.

The 3 Choices of Starters were varied.  From a delicious herb-dusted Prawn and Calamari, to Springbok Carpaccio with Spiced Cherry Chutney and a Falafel, some said to “die for” with Olives,

Sundried Tomatoes and Chickpeas.  All presented so beautifully.

The 3 Main options included a Beef Fillet with Onion Potato Puree, Tomato and Fennel, A Chicken

Dish with Sweet Potato, Roasted Beetroot and Mangetout or one of the favourites Port Belly with Carrot Puree, Minted Potato Puree and not to be missed divine Crackling. A little boost that was not on the Menu to cater for the Vegetarians was also offered to the Tables – An option of a Red

Curry Vegetable Bowl with Pearl Couscous, Salsa and Toasted Coconut Shavings – Totally Awesome flavours.

Desserts

Chocolate & Toffee Tart with Pecan Nuts – A true delight of Amazingness. Nice large portion, irresistible down to the last Pecan Nut Crumb.

Apple and Berry Tart with Almond Crumbs and Chantilly Cream…

Lemon and Poppyseed Cheesecake – always popular

Next time I would definitely choose to have a small sample of each on a platter – maybe they should

think about introducing that!!!!!

To round off this delightful Menu a fabulous range of Classic Red Wines and White.  This is an absolute attraction at Durbanville Hills.  The Chenin Blanc went down superbly with our choice of

Food, and so good that one bottle turned into 2 or 3 – can’t remember!!!!! Thanks to the excellent

Auto Pilot in the Porsche we got home safely.

Also thanks to Porsche’s great boot space two boxes of Collectors Reserve 2017 – Merlot

“The Lighthouse” landed up tucked away nicely into our Cellar. This unique wine displaying a hint of

Mint and Red Cherry will have to be sampled very soon.  Some interesting info on “The Lighthouse” Wine – the name refers to the Candy striped famous Lighthouse in Greenpoint, known affectionately

As “Moaning Minnie”.  This Lighthouse has guided many a ship out of danger along the misty Cape

Coastline.

Our experience at Durbanville Hills Restaurant will be remembered for its excellent Cuisine, Great

Service, Friendly Staff, Ambience of note, a view which will call us back again and not to forget the

Superb wine……Who could not have a great day.  Never mind all the wonderful members of Porsche

who attended the event.

The State of Art Wine Cellar seems particularly interesting with all those hundreds of Barrels of wine

Fermenting for bottling day.

Another piece of info to share with you and a reason to buy Durbanville Hills Wine – A percentage

of each bottle of wine produced by DH is donated back into the Community.  And there are also

other programmes too that they participate in as upliftment projects.

No wonder they are Five Star Proud of their Culinary Team and so many accolades over the years.

Thank you Durbanville Hills for an excellent experience and thank you to those involved at Porsche for organising this delightful venue.
