PORSCHE CLUB PARADE 2018 - SOUTH COAST-KZN  (20th to 24th September)                                          Jane Plit

The Porsche Club Parade 2018 – South Coast – KZN had long been scheduled for the 20th September, and I looked forward to the road trip with great anticipation, keen to do the journey with fellow Cape Town enthusiasts, who, although we were few in number, have a disproportionately large love of the road, and driving in our varied, but lovely cars.

Unfortunately I hadn't checked my calendar properly, and so, sadly, we weren't able to do the road trip (in either direction) Enigma Car Transporters did a great job of ferrying my car both ways!

I did do it vicariously, following the chat between the Kapies who did drive the journey, which consisted largely of one of the guys asking the others where they were!!

We got to San Lameer on the Thursday afternoon, having had a lovely run from Porsche Centre, Umhlanga.

On our arrival at Sam Lameer, we went to registration and were impressed with how well organised team KZN was.

Goody bags were quickly dispatched, and the fun of plastering stickers from sponsors all over or beauties, began.

Once they were all done, it was time for a drink, a snooze, Charley Krogh's welcome address, and then our first dinner, which was a buffet from around the world. I stopped at the curry station, and didn't get any further. I love curry, especially great Durban curry, which is a good thing, because we had rather a lot of that.

I take my hat off to Charles, who did a really good job of organising the parade, so that we were kept busy, and well entertained. He and his team did an incredible job, and if you haven't ever had to do the job, take it from me, there are not many things that are more exhausting or demanding, than keeping over 200 people happily occupied, and in control. Throw potentially inclement weather into the mix, and the responsibility ages you by over a decade, in a very short time. I kept a close eye on Charles's hairline, watching for it to go grey, and recede, but he managed to finish with the same mop he had at the start.

From the start, to the final day show and shine, we were really well taken care of.

The boys got to play with their toys, and so did some of us girls. Especially well done to Maria, from Central, who wins my vote for the driver of the parade!

My only regret is that there weren't more Kapies along for the ride, but it was great to be there with those of you who did join. KZN is a far way away, and many couldn't make time to do it. A pity, because you missed out on a fabulous parade, just ask Andrew Gunn, Colin Plit, Matt Kreeve, Francois Steenkamp, Hennie Botha, Nick Rust, Konrad Langeveldt!

I can't wait for the 2020 Parade, at Kyalami. When the dates are released, make sure to book!
