Knysna is known for many things, most notably the Knysna Oyster Festival in July. This is characterised by champagne, oysters and probably the biggest party of the year for many people.

For car enthusiasts however, there is something else to be excited about, and that is the Knysna Speed Festival. The first running of this event took place in 2009, with the main attraction being the Knysna Hillclimb, a 1.9km race up the epic Simola Hill. Now in its third year, with even more support and sponsorship, the event promises a motor racing experience like no other. The 2010 edition of the Speed Festival saw Franz Pretorius racing in an iconic Porsche 956 sports prototype, a car that has won 4 Le mans 24 hour races.

Car enthusiasts and racers are offered a festival unparalleled in South Africa and the various categories cater for a number of different vehicles. The Knysna Speed Festival takes place from 13-22 May 2011, you can have a look at the website for more information and for details on how you can enter.
