President’s Report February 2012

The presentation lunch at Linton Gardens was a great success. I had the pleasure of bring the MC for the event, we moved briskly through the presentations, with details and pictures in the background and we provided a few interesting details on the major prize winners. I would like to thank the many people who put in a huge amount of work behind the scenes and our sponsors for prizes to accompany the bigger trophies.

The membership management system handled the presentation lunch registrations well, with most people paying electronically. The tip this month is for members with a partner member to make sure you have entered the name and email address for the partner member; otherwise they will not receive the email communications from the club.

Sadly club member Liam Wild passed away during January and many members attended his funeral. As a tribute to Liam, the club’s charity this year will be Cystic Fibrosis. We officially started the ball rolling at the presentation lunch with a raffle and auction raising around $1,800. PR Technology supplied very generous service vouchers for the auction. Some of Liam’s friends and family are participating in the 65k for 65 Roses Walkathon and donations can be made directly through this link:

We are still looking for a Social Secretary to head up the sub committee and are keen to hear from people willing to share the role.

Enjoy each motoring moment

Vice Presidents Report February 2012

Guest Speakers

The January Meeting featured the brilliant film ‘Senna’. Judging by the rapt attention and silence the audience enjoyed this epic film.

February 14th Club Meeting

This meeting is the traditional evening where Club Captain Tim talks about the procedures and details of the PCNSW Competition Year. It is essential attendance for anyone even remotely interested in competition activity. To gild the lily, we may have Past President Rob Annett in town and if he is, he’ll report on his recent visit to South Africa for the Porsche World Presidents’ Meeting. In his usual style, he sent us a tantalising photo of a long line of 991s [the new 911] which were for use by the attendees of that meeting.

Future Guest Speakers

Details of each speaker and his/her content will be given in this Newsletter and on the PCNSW website prior to the month.

Sponsors

We thank our major sponsors for their support in 2011 and for the wide range of generous prizes given at the Presentation lunch held last weekend at Lynton Gardens. We had an entry of 150 for an all time record attendance. It’s a big day and as the PCNSW grows, the ability to get through the programme just gets more complex and we appreciate the patience of the audience.

Porsche Cars Australia was sponsor for the PCNSW Driver Championship and Porsche Centre Sydney South supported the popular PCNSW Motokhana Championship. PR Technology, once again, was the sponsor for the PCNSW Sprint Championship and Autohaus Hamilton the Social Participation Award. The Concours 2011 was supported by Exclusive Bodywerks.

Our trophy order was produced by Express Trophys of St Marys and we thank them for their cooperation and an excellent job.

991 Launch

Porsche will launch the new 911 [991] into NSW 10th March. We have been asked to supply a small number of ‘period’ 911’s to augment the display at the showrooms and individual owners will be contacted in due course.

Porsche Australia Presidents’ Meeting

PCNSW has been invited to attend a meeting in Melbourne February 14th and as Pres Paul will be on holidays, it’s my honour to attend on your behalf.

Enjoy your Porsche

Vice President PCNSW

Club Captain's Report February 2012

What a great way to finish off the 2011 Competition Year with all the trophies and awards presented at the Linton Gardens Function in January. Well done to everyone involved in the day, including the great drive through the back blocks of Kellyville, Dural and Galston.

An urgent reminder to all competitors that the first event for the year is a Motorkhana on the 12th February at Eastern Creek Skid Pad - that's a lot earlier than normal and entries close this week, so don't miss out.

For those who have not done a competition event, Motorkhana is a great way to try your hand. We already have a number of people trying it for the first time this year.

The February Club meeting is the Motorsport meeting where we will go through all the requirements for car and driver preparation. We will have a sample car on display so we can show what’s needed to prepare a car for track days – it’s not as hard as you might think. We also go over the Competition Rules highlighting any changes which may have been made.

The first round of the SuperSprint Championship is on 10th March, so keep an eye on the club web site for entries to open soon.

For those competing at Bathurst in the regularity event at Easter, we now have the Supplementary Regulations and the event is open for the payment of the balance of funds. You will receive an email this week with the documentation and a link to the site for payment.

The new calendar of events for 2012 is now on the Club Web Site so make a note in your diaries for all the challenges of Sprints and Motorkhana's. Don't forget to check it from time to time as some dates will change. Note that already we have a change to the event calendar for 2012. The second round of the Sprint Championship on the 21st April at Eastern Creek will have to be postponed till later in the year as the Southern Circuit construction has been delayed due to the extended bad weather. The competition committee is working with Eastern Creek to find an alternative date. Also be aware that the August 19th BMW Challenge event has now moved to 26th August.

We have received a lot of Competition Car Registrations already which makes the start of the season much easier to administer. Just a reminder for those who competed in 2011, your class and competition number should remain unchanged UNLESS you have made some modifications to your car, in which case we re-evaluate your class based on the new information. In my case, I just received a shock when after some modifications to the engine over the summer break, a new check has resulted in my car almost certainly going up at least one class!!

This year we are registering the cars as part of the new Membership Management system, so when events entries are called, your details are prefilled when you register for the event - it cuts down the work and makes it more accurate.

Track days and Motorkhana's don't run themselves - there is a dedicated group of members who work behind the scenes to make it all work smoothly - and there is always room for more. If you feel would like to help out, I'd love to hear from you at captain@pcnsw.com.au

So remember - don't just turn up, get involved and your will get so much more out of your club.

Captain

Club Secretary & Social News February 2012

2012 is rapidly gaining momentum with February already upon us!,

I am very pleased to report that the he Annual Presentation Lunch at Linton Gardens on Sunday 29 January 2012 was a great success. Some 140+ Members and guests enjoyed a wonderful drive and a delicious lunch in beautiful surroundings in relatively fine weather.

Apart from the presentation of trophies to the Outright and Class winners of the Club Competition series and Concours in 2011 two of the Club’s most prestigious awards were presented.

The winner of the 2011 ‘Arthur Hamilton Memorial Trophy’ for Clubman of the Year Award was given to Terry Carter. Primarily for his behind the scenes work in organising the flag marshals at our Club supersprints for at least the last decade and numerous social events during his 11 year membership of PCNSW. Congratulations and well deserved Terry.

The ‘John Young Trophy’ for Volunteer of the Year was awarded to Kumiko Yamamoto who in her 2 years as Member has hardly missed a Club Meeting, any the social events and on many occasions stepped forward to help in these activities. Kumuko’s biggest contribution has been as a flag marshal at the nearly all the supersprints in 2011 and thus earning her CAMS accreditation as a flag marshal. Not surprisingly Kumiko also took out the ‘Autohaus Hamilton’ Social participation Award for 2011. Congratulations for most deserved awards.

The Club’s charity drive was also kicked off at the Presentation Lunch. In past years the Club has raised money for the Randwick Children’s Hospital and CANTEEN to help children affected by cancer. This year the Committee has decided to collect money for Cystic Fibrosis Research as a tribute to one of our younger members Liam Wild who recently passed away at the age of 29 from the disease. Thanks to very generous prizes of specialist Porsche servicing donated by the Club’s two most active sponsors ‘Autohaus Hamilton’ and ‘PRTechnology’ and ‘Hot Laps’ to be provided by some the Club’s ‘Top Gun’ drivers at our supersprints during 2012 and the generosity of those members & guests who participated in the raffle and auction run by our ‘illustrious’ Communications Manager Colin Leung over $700 was raised, including a generous donation of $100 from Linton Gardens.

The other social events for 2012 are slowly evolving with the next event on the Club’s calendar being the Sydney German Autofest at Canada Bay on 19 February (see PCNSW website for details).

A Lunch Run is currently being arranged by Laurie Hodges to Magenta Shores near the The Entrance for the 25th of March. This will also appeal to those members who play golf as they may want to separately book themselves a game of golf after lunch. Details and bookings for this event will be on the website shortly.

The first of two lunch runs to the Hunter Valley is being planned by Kumiko Yamamoto for late April or May along one of the Club’s favourite drive routes the Putty Road. The second run is scheduled for November thanks again to Peter & Anne Kritakis volunteering to again organize a repeat of last year’s fabulous drive via Wollombi and spectacularly scenic roads through the Hunter Valley to the ‘Verandah Restaurant’ at the Calais Estate Winery.

In the meantime some other lunch drives are being considered to the Southern Highlands and to Lithgow just to test the heaters in our Porsches in the winter months.

If you’re wondering why more social events haven’t yet been planned for 2012 it’s because PCNSW currently does not have a dedicated Social Secretary to identify and co-ordinate these events. Therefore, if you have a good idea and want to organize a short drive for a breakfast run or a longer day drive with suitable lunch venue or even a weekend away drive please let us know.

John M.
Club Secretary & Struggling Acting-Social Coordinator

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Are looking for a new challenge within your club?

This year we still have the Social Secretary position vacant. We are asking for expressions of interest from PCNSW members who may be interested in either position but were daunted by the prospect of an election.

The roles are outlined in the Club Rules:

25. Social Secretary
It is the duty of the Social Secretary of the Association to carry out the following:
(a) co-ordination of all social and special events,
(b) chair the Social Sub-Committee, and
(c) report on social and special events at committee meetings and general meetings.

John Marosszeky has done a great job as Social Secretary for the past few years but has taken on the role of PCNSW Secretary and retained Membership Manager, far too much for the ever enthusiastic John.

The Social Secretary role involves working with the established sub-committee to populate our social event timetable, you do not have to organise, or attend, or run, every event. Many events are organised by one of the sub committee members or in conjunction with other Committee members. You do not even have to come to every committee meeting; if travel is an issue, you can submit a written report for the agenda and dial in.

If you have been thinking about contributing more to the Club, this is your opportunity. If you want you can arrange for another person to share the role with you.

If you are interested or want to know more, email me at president@pcnsw.com.au

Paul Dortkamp
