In looking back, my deeper interest in the 356 models commenced when I started to attend (as a non-356 guest) some of PCNZ’s James Dean events where I had the opportunity to share a fraction of the vast collective knowledge of the regular stalwarts, including Rodger Anderson, Kip Colvey, Paul Higgins, Trevor Hudson, Graham Lister and Steven Neville. Of course, this rank has since expanded generationally to include many others and their wives of equal enthusiasm.

Early last year, after signalling to some of the above named that I was contemplating joining the 356 ranks by acquiring another metallic girlfriend, I received a welcome call from my friend Steven Neville who advised that he had spotted at Dutton Garage, Melbourne, a potentially suitable 356. Steven was in Taupo at that time and I immediately drove from Napier to learn more firsthand about his find. As the beautiful images of the cherry red 1963 356B Cabriolet* sowed a fast-growing seed in my mind,
