Welcome to the Porsche Club Malaysia Website!
In June 1998, a group of Porsche owner-enthusiasts met after office at Autonet Sdn Bhd at Lot 5, Jalan 19/1A, Seksyen 19, Petaling Jaya, Selangor, and agreed to set up a club for Porsche owners throughout Malaysia.
A Pro-tem Committee was duly elected and they set to work to form the club. After all the hard work, the club was duly registered on 23rd December 1998 under the Societies Act 1966.
Since then, the Club has grown from strength to strength. The Club holds frequent track-days, originally at the Shah Alam Motor Racing Circuit at Batu Tiga, Shah Alam, Selangor, and later at the Sepang International Circuit. I remember our Club members convoyed to Sepang and were amongst the first to visit the SIC even whilst it was under construction. In addition, there were frequent get-togethers, Sunday morning drives, petrol-head gatherings, annual Drive-Of-The-Year events to neighbouring countries, and of course our Annual Dinner & Dance!
The Club has taken part in, and organized, inter-marque golf tournaments, which according to our records, were all won by our team! In 2000, the Club organized the Porsche World Golf Challenge , in conjunction with the World
Cup of Golf which was held at the Mines. We didn't invite Tiger Woods to play at our event as he was not a Porsche owner, but maybe next time.
The Club also set a record last year when it organized a successful Drive-Of-The-Year to Chiangmai, Pai and the Golden Triangle, from Kuala Lumpur, a 2,000 km journey each way! So far, it's the longest drive by a motor-car club in Malaysia, on record.
Recently, the Club was honoured to appoint YAB Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as our Patron. Tun has always been a keen motorist and likes to drive his Porsche Cayenne, and would often take part in our Club events.
Our Club members have distinguished themselves in motor-racing in Malaysia ; our past-president, Aminuddin Omar and Dato Azman Yahya were Malaysian Motorsports Series champions in the premier Supersports category in 2005 and 2006 respectively, the latter doing it in a Porsche GT3 Cup car. These two, with yours truly driving under the nome-de-plume Ila Ridak (which essentially is my name spelt backwards), also won the Open Category of the 2004 Merdeka Millenium Endurance 12-hour Race, again in a Porsche GT3 Cup car. The latest win was by Dato Mokhzani Mohamed and his team mates, who won the overall title in the 2007 MME Race, in a Porsche GT3 RSR. Chin Jit Pyng 's son, our club member also won the Class A, MME in 2006 and 2007, with Chin coming in 2nd. There are other wins that abound, but they can't all be recorded down, for we don't want the other Car Clubs to get too envious!
